Vipiteno/Sterzing, Italy

Vipiteno/Sterzing, Italy

The town of Vipiteno/Sterzing, Italy, was founded in the Middle Ages by the famous Fugger family (bankers that replaced the Medicis in Renaissance), and has retained until today its irresistible romantic and artistic charm. Lying at 948m above sea level, Vipiteno is the main town of the southern Wipp Valley and has a population of 6,800. Strolling through the beautiful shopping street, the Old and New Town of Vipiteno, there is much to see and to discover.

The Tourism Association describes the area as follows: 'The alpine city Vipiteno is the northern most town of Italy. Vipiteno was founded in the Middle Ages and has retained its irresistible romantic and artistic charm. The Fugger weren't the only well known entrepreneurs which opened offices in the medieval period of prosperity. Built in the Maximilian age, Vipiteno enchants everyone still today! Today the small alpine town, which once served as a refuge for kings and emperors, is a sparkling jewel rich in ancient art , boasting numerous wonderful bay windows as well as elegant boutiques. You will be able to enjoy unforgettable days in the midst of the spectacular Dolomites mountain scenery in summer as well as in winter: unspoiled countryside, adventure and relaxation in an area characterized by an outstanding beauty. The Rosskopf cable car are only a couple steps away from the center. There you will find a beautiful hiking area in summer and a small but inviting skiing area in winter. A real highlight is the longest illuminated and with artificial snow covered sledding run of Italy.  Meadows, forests and mountains - the secret of memories that will last for a lifetime. The wealth of cultural and historical gems bears witness to a past rich in tradition. The town of Vipiteno, a flourishing trading center bustling with life and activity, constantly renews and revives the glory and splendor of the Fugger era. The charm of this area will certainly impress you, no matter whether you visit it: as a transient tourist or for a vacation for a longer period of time'

But did you know that from the pedestrian zone it is just a five-minutes’ walk to the station at the bottom of the Rosskopf gondola lift? From there you can reach an altitude of 1,860 m very comfortably, marveling at a spectacular view while being transported. This small Alpine town, which once served as a refuge for kings and emperors, is today a sparkling jewel rich in ancient art, boasting elegant boutiques. A small gem set in the beautiful natural scenery ranging from the side valleys of Ratschings, to those in Ridanna, Fleres, Vizze and Giovo. Meadows and woods, Alps and glaciers, pure untouched nature.

Vipiteno/Sterzing, Italy (in Italian Südtirol region all towns have double name, Italian and German) is in the heart of the most beautiful and extravagant landscapes in Europe, the Italian Alps. It is about 950 meters (3,117 ft) above sea level. The climate is very gentle, and the air is pure. It is a superb place for hiking, swimming, and biking. Historically, the area is known to have settlements already in the Bronze age and possibly earlier. There are many local attractions including Medieval and Renaissance churches and castles. The scenery is breath-taking and include the Rosskopf mountain and Kitzbuehel mountain area. Local farmers sell their fresh organic produce in their little farmhouses high in the mountains or bring to town regularly. Restaurants and cafes are numerous and uniformly excellent.

Such Italian gems as Venice, Cremona, Verona, Lake Garda, and Milan are reachable by train within a couple of hours from Vipiteno.

What to Wear & Dining

ATTIRE

We encourage the wearing of formal dress to show respect to the performers. At the same time the opportunity to look gorgeous never goes out of style.

Today our audiences are thrilled to combine the joy of dressing up with an opportunity to be different for a few evenings. Our audiences enjoy dressing in formal or vintage styles as much as the most contemporary fashion.

Given the alpine mountain weather, we recommend to bring an additional warm layer.
