Christian Bertoncello, Violoncello

Christian Bertoncello is a cellist, teacher, soloist, and chamber musician based in South Tyrol. Born in Bolzano into a family of musicians, he began studying cello at the age of six with Giorgia Postinghel and later trained at the “C. Monteverdi” Conservatory in Bolzano with Giuseppe Momo and Nicola Baroni. He refined his artistry with Umberto Clerici and Julius Berger, completing a Master of Music degree at the Leopold Mozart Zentrum of the University of Augsburg in Germany. Bertoncello has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Italy, Austria, Germany, and Croatia, with appearances at venues including the Kleiner Goldener Saal in Augsburg and the Gasteig in Munich, and his concerts have been broadcast by RAI and ORF. He has collaborated with composers such as Sofia Gubaidulina, Franghiz Ali-Zadeh, Giovanni Bonato, and Manuela Kerer, including performances of world premieres. His orchestral experience includes the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ulm Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Philharmonie Südwestfalen, where he served as principal cellist from 2015 to 2017 before focusing on teaching and his solo career. He appears regularly as guest principal cellist with ensembles including the Mahler Orchestra Toblach, Südtirol Filarmonica, Tiroler Kammerorchester, and the orchestra of Teatro La Fenice. Since 2008, he has performed on a cello made by Wojciech Topa.
