Monique Phinney earned a B.M., cum laude, from Hartt College of Music and completed studies with Clara Shear, John Moriarty, Judith Oas, Joan Caplan, Alberta Masiello and Robert Hess.

Phinney has performed with the Santa Fe and Boston Concert operas, the San Angelo Symphony, Hartford and Indian Hill symphony orchestras, Musica Sacra (NY) and Amor Artis under conductors such as Edo de Waart, John Fiore, Raymond Leppard and Richard Westenburg and directors such as Rhoda Levine, Bliss Hebert and Rosalind Elias. She has also given ensemble performances with Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Masur, Zubin Mehta, Robert Shaw, Gerard Schwarz and Johannes Somary in a number of prominent venues, including Carnegie, Avery Fisher and Alice Tully Halls and Symphony Hall in Boston.

Phinney was a finalist in the Connecticut Grand Opera Competition, the Eleanor Steber Vocal Competition and the Houston Grand Opera Studio and received the “Most Promising Young Artist” from the National Opera Club of America (1984). She appeared in the American premiere of Debussy’s La Chute de la Maison Usher with Ignace Strasvogel, which aired on CPTV, and has made several musical theater appearances with Hartt Opera Theater and the Indian Hill Symphony. Phinney is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions New England Regional Committee. Her recordings can be heard on DGG record labels.
